

In 1992, the then SAAA awarded Rameshon the Meritorius award for doing 2hr 30min in the California marathon. In 1994, he completed his bachelor’s degree at Loughborough University, England.
He was also running for the cross-country team for the university in League One races. In a 10km race in Loughborough, he attained his personal best of 31min 46sec. In year 1995, Rameshon attained 2hrs 24min 22sec in the SEA Games at Chiengmai, Thailand by training systematically and doing the breathing technique taught by Sri Sri Ravi Shankar.

In 2008, Rameshon completed his further studies in Masters in Education from the University of Western Australia and subsequently in December, that year, at the age of 43 he came in as the local champion in the Standard Chartered Marathon men's open race.
Until 29 years of age, Murugiah Rameshon’s aim was to bring down the marathon time to as low as possible in life before he could retire from competitive running. He has done one 2hr 31min in Hong Kong Marathon in 1990, before doing 2hr 30min in California Marathon (Pacific Rim) in 1991. In order to avoid stagnation in performance, he studied in the reputed Loughborough University of Technology for nearly 2 years. The two people who helped him achieve were Coach Alan Guilder and Sir George Gandy.
In April 1993, Rameshon ran the London Marathon and did 2hr 29min and in that year September he ran the Berlin Marathon and did a time of 2hr 28min. When he came back from overseas in Year 1994, he was able to came in as the local champ In the Singapore Marathon. He did a local best time of 2hr 34min 02sec which to this date is the fastest time achieved by any Singaporean in the Singapore soil. The next fastest time done in Singapore goes to Bala who has done a time of 2hr 35min in Singapore. They had to go through a race which included several repeats of short hilly terrain during the race in a hot and humid weather.
In year 1995 Jan, he became the first one to qualify for the SEA Games with a time of 2hr 29min for the Chiengmai Marathon (Pre –Sea Games). In the year end SEA Games, in Chiengmai, Thailand 1995, he did a 2hr 24min 22sec and broke the national record further. In the race, Herman Suizo, the SEA Games marathon record holder gave up somewhere at the 23km mark as he could not take the intensive race. Rameshon’s sub-2hr 25min enable him to be a qualifier just as Yvonne Danson. Both were the only qualifiers for the track and field for Olympics.
In year 1995, Rameshon attained his personal best time of 7min 02 sec in the 2.4km NAPFA Test organized by Singapore Sports Council. On that year, his protégé Ng Soo Hong did a time of 7min 26sec for the 2.4km. Ng Soo Hong did 2hr 44min in Gold Coast Marathon. In year 2004, Rameshon coached Khoo Chin Poo to attain 2hr 39min in the Vietnam SEA Games.
In year 2008, Murugiah Rameshon ran in the Standard Chartered Marathon, Singapore and did 2hr 49min to come in as the champion for the race. That year, those who trained under his training, for example, Dr Ben Tan, the current President of Sailing, Singapore, and the author of ‘Run For Your Life’ came in third, while Daniel Ling came in second that year. On that year, he finished his further studies in Masters in Education, University of Western Australia and also got the boys from Hwa Chong to win the Under 18 National Schools’ Cross-Country Championships title as well. It was a triple feat.
In short, he has five 2hr 30min and below timing, with 4 of the races with sub 2hr 30min. At the age of 43, he also came in champion for the Singapore Standard Chartered Marathon local category. He has coached about 12 runners to do a sub – 3hours for the marathon race. Dr Benny Goh, broke ultra-marathon local record through Rameshon’s training for the Sundown Marathon. To date, it is the best time ever by a Singaporean. Dr Benny, a dentist and a friend of Dr Benedict Tan, has a personal best time of 2hr 50min done in Japan.
Recently, he has helped Ashley Liew to do a 2hr 45min in the Hong Kong Marathon before doing 2hr 41min for the Gold Coast Marathon. Ashley Liew was second in Singapore Standard Chartered Marathon local category in year 2009 and year 2010. He has been named as the fastest local 10km runner for the year 2011 by Singapore Athletics Association. In the recent, POSB 10km race, Ashley came in as the champion in the men category. Ashley Liew has a personal best time of 16min 11sec for 5km and 26min 57sec for the 8km race. He is intending to do a sub 2hr 40min for the coming Singapore Standard Chartered Marathon 2011.
Murugiah Rameshon has helped more than 30 casual marathon runners to attain a marathon timing of faster than 5hours.
